The Upper Northwest is north of Georgetown and south of Bethesda, MD. It consists of a number of neighborhoods including Embassy Row, McLean Gardens, American University Park, Friendship Heights, Tenleytown, Spring Valley, Palisades, Kent, Welsey Heights and Glover Park.

Housing here is generally less expensive. Glover Park offers more affordable cottages and townhomes. American University Park offers 2 and 3 bedroom homes that cost less than 1 bedroom apartments in the high rent districts. Tenleytown, east of American University, is a commercial strip and on relatively high ground which is why the major networks have studios here.
